【V2 レトロスペクティブにみたビジュアル 38-1】
課題文はconsensus (同意) という英単語に関する話。焦点は「with＋O＋―ing, etc.」。
新聞でいつもいつも繰り返される「誤植」が話題になります。
焦点の「with＋O＋―ing, etc.」は 【V2 10-2】(40スレ No. 215) でも話題にした通り、S′＋P′関係、すなわちNexusを含む形です。
本文。
・... a word that is ...―the word 'consensus.' :
同格。H= a word, A= the word 'consensus.'。

・You cannot ... without 〜:
これを見ると伊藤先生は「英文解釈の公式、受験英語の公式」と言いますね。これと
cannot ... too (いくら ... しても ...　しきれない) はいつも（笑）。

・It is one of
{　　　the politician's
　and the editorial writer's} favorite words. : 釣り合いの取れた読み方。

・And yet, two or three times out of ten:
以前に「しかし」の意味のyet が出た時、and yet のことも伊藤先生、話していました。
two or three times out of ten は「10回に2, 3回は」。英作文の本に必ず出てくる表現。

・there's that odd 'c' in the middle instead of the first 's.':
con's'ensus (the first 's')の代わりに(instead of )、奇妙な'c'が真ん中に(odd 'c' in the middle) 現れ、con'c'ensus と「誤植」されるわけです。
余談ですが、仕事で「コンセンサス」という言葉をよく使うのですが、使うたびにこの文章を思い出してしまいます。
