while の前と後を比較対照する接続詞で、詳しい説明はしませんでしたが、No. 28 に出てきました (【V2 28-4】(40スレ No. 795))。
前から「A だが、B」である。とすっきり訳します。
ここの「パターン」は S＋V [S＋V (S＋V)]

his son's TV watching (【V2 16-3】(40スレ No. 323))→ His son watches TV と同様に
This selective food gathering→ gathering food selectively in this way
「この様に花を選んで蜜を集めること」

a coordination of efforts on the part of the bees which ... ですから、ここまでの名詞を並べます。

・・・書くとみえるんですよね。A coordination しかありません。
