の最後のand the soldiers 以降の訳なんですが正答例では
「兵士が進み、彼らが通過したあとは道は人気がなく白々として木の葉だけが残るのが見えた」
で、これは兵士が落葉の上を行進したあと葉っぱしか残ってなかった、つまりexcept for the leavesを葉の「存在」を除いては道路がbare and white 何も無かったと訳してるわけですが
except for the leavesを葉っぱが「残ってる部分」以外は道路が(行進によって)露出し、白くなってると解釈する事はできないのでしょうか？
