(1)Surrealism is a style of art known for its unusual, dream-like images. It is different from other kinds of art, such as photography or certain paintings, because it does not try to be realistic. For example, in one famous surrealist painting, pocket watches are melting and turning into liquid. (2)Surrealism began after World War I, at a time when people were often disappointed at society, losing faith in texts like the Bible. (3)Frustrated by this situation, artists began seeking new and alternative ways of expressing themselves. They wanted to break away from what was established and familiar. (4)While in the past, many painters wanted to create realistic pictures, trying to make their pictures look real, these artists rejected the old ways. (5)Instead, they used their canvases in ways surprising to ordinary people, representing their abundant dreams and fantasies. They hoped that these odd images would make people stop and think about things differently. 0086名無しさん@明日があるさ2020/03/03(火) 23:14:28.610 Every country has its native instruments which capture the mood and spirit of its culture. For the Japanese it may be the koto and shamisen, and for Indians, the sitar and vina. If it were not for these instruments, Japan and India might not be what they are now, at least with respect to the music culture. For Americans there are three instruments which reflect the mood of the country and can be called traditional American ones although their origins, like most things American, may be elsewhere. The first of these instruments is the banjo, a simple four-stringed instrument. This musical instrument originally came from Africa and was most probably brought to America by slaves in the early nineteenth century. After working all day in the cotton fields, they would relax in the evening under the shade of trees and sing simple songs of their native lands. The banjo would be played as well in order to help the field workers recall the spirit of their homelands. Later, after the Civil War, banjos were widely played in musical shows featuring folk music and jazz groups throughout the South. It has a simple sound when played. If you heard two musicians play the guitar and the banjo at the same time, you could not tell the difference of sound of these two instruments. Although it resembles the guitar, its sound is not as soft. Yet, when played well, it creates a strong atmosphere which communicates the feeling of life in the early American South. A second instrument associated with America is the harmonica. Sometimes called a mouth organ, it is a simple instrument which can easily be held in one hand. Originally, the first harmonicas were made in Germany, but the early pioneers brought this instrument with them from their homeland when they came to America. They would play in the evenings while passing the night under the stars. On the lonely prairie注 after a long day's work, the sound of the harmonica is especially sad. If the banjo has a lively sound, then the harmonica has a quiet one. It is the sound of someone yearning for his or her home or wanting to return to the lost experiences of happier days. When properly played, it displays the mood of the vast frontier注. The third instrument associated with America is the guitar. Originally, it was an instrument of European origin, most likely from Spain. Yet, the guitar also played an important part in the American frontier. After a hard day's work taking care of cattle, cowboys would sit around an open campfire and sing songs of love and nature while playing the guitar. Today the banjo and harmonica may not be as popular as they once were, but the guitar is still very much alive. There is hardly a rock band today which does not feature an electrical guitarist as part of the group. 0087名無しさん@明日があるさ2020/03/04(水) 18:23:41.290 Japanese people are often thought of as great lovers of nature. It is also observed that they really understand the value of the beauty of Japan. Japan's geographical traits helped to develop their sensitivity to the beauty in landscape. History has also played a part in forming their aesthetic sense
When cherry trees come into full bloom people will not only walk around and enjoy the sight but also sit on mats below the trees and enjoy talking, drinking, and singing. Most Japanese believe that it is very natural for them to enjoy cherry trees this way, but they are wrong.
In the Edo era, people came to be fascinated with the cherry blossoms for the first time. Before then, the space under the cherry blossoms was not a delightful spot and was rather avoided. This was because people were afraid of its atmosphere. They even sensed the presence of some evil spirit there, especially when no one was around. In fact, some people were said to get lost there.
In the past, at Suzuka Pass, which is still famous for its cherry trees, travelers had to pass through the cherry tree forest and they used to run through it as fast as they could. When travelers came to the forest in the spring, their fear would peak. Even the best of friendships between two travelers could be broken by the time they reached the other end of the forest, since the slower runner would have a deep grudge against his faster friend.
This belief in the magic power of the cherry blossoms provided Ango Sakaguchi with an inspiration of his famous novel In the Forest, Under Cherries in Full Bloom. In this novel a robber attacked travelers at Suzuka Pass, but fell victim to the evil spirit of the cherry blossoms.
