29．天気と政府の共通点は？
It always is wretched weather, according to us. The weather is like the Government,
always in the wrong. If it is fine, we say the country is being ruined for want of rain; if it
does rain, we pray for fine weather. If December passes without snow, we indignantly
demand to know what has become of our good old-fashioned winters, and talk as if we
had been cheated out of something we had bought and paid for; and when it does snow,
our language is a disgrace to a Christian nation. We shall never be content until each
man makes his own weather and keeps it to himself.

我々に言わせれば、天気はいつも嫌な状態だ。天気は政府に似ていつも悪い。もし晴れて
いたら、雨不足のせいで国がダメになると言う。雨が降れば晴れてほしいと祈る。もし雪
が降らないまま12月が過ぎれば、古き良き12月はどうなったのかと憤り、あたかも騙さ
れて物を買ってしまったかのようだ。雪が降ったら降ったでキリスト教の国に不名誉なこ
とを言う。みんなが自分専用の天気を作り出してキープするまで決して満足することはな
いだろう。

キリスト教に何か雪に関する考えか言葉があって、雪が降ったらそれに反するようなことを我々が言う、という意味でしょうか。
